New Developments in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: Treatment of Self and Interpersonal Functions

Seminars

Amsterdam, October 1 – 2, 2019

Master Class taught by Eve Caligor MD

This master class will provide an overview of Transference-Focused Psychotherapy – Extended (TFP-E), a flexible, trans-diagnostic psychodynamic treatment model for pathology of self and interpersonal functioning based on TFP principles.  The treatment builds on a convergence between the psychodynamic, object relations theory model of personality pathology and recent developments in the empirical study of personality disorders reflected in the Alternative Model for Personality Disorders in the DSM5. Both models emphasize the centrality of self and interpersonal functioning in personality health and pathology across a range of severity, and improvement in these domains of functioning emerges as a central goal in treatment.  The course will introduce participants to the general clinical principles and specific techniques that define TFP-E.  We will highlight how this general treatment model is systematically modified according to severity of personality pathology, as techniques are differentially applied to meet the needs of the individual patient. Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) Foundational Training: Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD)

Seminars

China, July 5-7, 2019

Faculty: Frank Yeomans, MD, PhD

Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) is a state-of-the-art, evidence-based treatment for patients with personality disorders (PD). TFP offers psychotherapists an overarching approach to patients with severe PD symptoms including, but not limited to, patients with borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder.
Target Audience: Physicians, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and other licensed mental health counselors.

The goals of our training program include: 1) Introduction to TFP as an individual psychotherapy for patients with personality disorder symptoms, and 2) Introduction to TFP principles of use to clinicians in a variety of treatment settings who may not be offering an extended individual psychotherapy, but nevertheless want assistance in the challenges of treating patients with moderate to severe personality disorder symptoms. TFP Year 1, from June 2018 to May 2019, focused on setting a foundation of TFP knowledge and its use for treating borderline personality disorder. This 3-day workshop, as a part of TFP Year 2, will focus on narcissistic personality disorder.
