7 – Destroying the internal image | Frank Yeomans

August 11, 2025 by Mathieu Norton-Poulin

In this 38 minutes videos, Frank Yeomans discusses the concept of “destroying the internal image” in therapy. As the therapist informs the patient about an upcoming absence, it triggers a strong reaction in the patient due to their lack of an integrated internal world. The patient struggles with the therapist’s absence, leading to an attack on the internal image of the therapist. This session explores the patient’s anxiety, anger, and difficulty in maintaining an internal representation of the therapist. The therapist emphasizes the importance of understanding the patient’s reactions and the impact of their own aggression on their experiences. The goal is to help the patient develop a more stable internal world and better tolerate the therapist’s absence
