Biographical Info
Diana Diamond is Professor in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at the City University of New York, Adjunct Clinical Professor At New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Weill Medical Center of Cornell University, where she is also a senior fellow in the Personality Disorders Institute. Her primary interest is in the development, investigation, teaching, and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for personality disorders. She has published extensively on theory and treatment of personality disorders, the relevance of attachment theory and research to psychoanalysis, on applying concepts of attachment theory to investigating therapeutic process and outcome with patients with personality disorders, on assessing mental representation and how they change over the course of therapy, and on the application of psychoanalytic theory to the understanding of narrative and symbolism in cinema. She has co-authored and edited several books, most recently, Attachment and Sexuality (co-edited with Sidney Blatt and Joe Lichtenberg). She is currently working on A clinical guide to treatment of NPD based on TFP principles (Guilford Press, with Frank Yeomans and Barry Stern). She is the recipient for several awards including the inaugural ISTFP Research Award for the paper, Attachment and mentalization in female patients with co-morbid narcissistic and borderline personality disorder (Diamond, D., Levy, K.N., Clarkin, J., Fisher-Kern, M., Cain, N., Doering, S., Hörz, & Buchheim, A. (in press). Personality Disorders: Theory, Research and Treatment.), She is on the Editorial Boards of Psychoanalytic Psychology, Psychological Issues, the Journal of Couple and Family Psychoanalysis, and Psychoanalytic Inquiry. She is a graduate of the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and is in private practice in New York, and is a member at large of the board of directors of the Division of Psychoanalysis (39) of the American Psychological Association.
