STIPO-R Training – Ukraine – 2024
English – Online
Julia Sowislo, Ph.D.
Description
Comprehensive understanding and evaluation of personality across the full spectrum from normal to severe pathology. This assessment is based on Otto Kernberg’s object relations theory and сorrelates with the most recent versions of DSM-5 (Section III) and ICD-11.
Therapy without an accurate diagnosis of the patient is unproductive. Each level of personality organization has its own model of therapy. In the TFP model psychotherapy begins only after a diagnostic assessment. Therapists who do not have a comprehensive clinical diagnostic background, especially in hospitals, have difficulty accurately assessing patients.
The STIPO-R is an empirically validated diagnostic method that allows for clear differentiation between various levels of disorder severity. This is the approach to diagnosis used in the latest versions of DSM-5 (Section III) and ICD-11.
Becoming proficient in utilizing the STIPO-R allows for a precise evaluation of the individual’s level of personality organization (ranging from healthy to psychotic) and the specific personality types that can impact the outcome of therapy and its planning.
The most recent study, conducted in April 2024, confirmed that the STIPO-R can accurately determine the severity of the disorder and assign an individual to one of five groups: healthy personality functioning, maladaptive personality rigidity (neurotic level), as well as mild, moderate, and severe levels of personality pathology (three severity levels of borderline organization). The study also identified the factors that have the greatest impact on the severity of the disorder.
The STIPO-R interview covers the understanding and assessment of all major areas of a person’s functioning:
· Identity;
· Work, study, recreation and social life;
· Interpersonal relationships: friendships, intimate relationships, love and sexual relationships;
· Internal relationships with oneself and other people;
· Activity of defensive mental processes;
· Manifestations of aggression and aggressiveness towards oneself and others;
· Formation of and adherence to moral and ethical values.
You will learn how to engage in in-depth discussions with patients about topics such as love, sexuality, aggression, defences, narcissism, ethical values, attitudes towards work, and social interaction. You will also learn how to assess their functioning in these areas, accurately identify integrated identity and degrees of identity diffusion, and recognize a split psychological structure even if it is concealed by «normal» behavior.
Through the interview, you will be able to accurately evaluate the individual’s
· general level of functioning of the individual;
· degree of identity diffusion
· stability and fluctuations in self-esteem;
· peculiarities of internal perception of other people;
· attachment and dependence and inhibition in emotionally close relationships;
· organization of defense mechanisms, preference for primitive or high-level defenses.
· manifestations of aggression towards oneself or other people;
· adherence to moral and ethical values.
The advantage of STIPO-R is its duration. You can gather valuable information about the patient in a session lasting from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
The STIPO-R can be used not only for the initial assessment of a patient prior to treatment, but also to assess the interim effectiveness of treatment. The STIPO-R can also be used in research.
Workshop design:
This training consists of a two-day workshop where we provide theoretical material and a practical component. This includes studying videos of STIPO being used with different types of patients.
The training concludes with a Q&A session in 2 weeks. During these weeks, participants will have the opportunity to practice STIPO-R. The Q&A session is designed to allow participants to apply the knowledge gained during the two-day workshop in real-life situations. It will enable participants to gather practical experience, formulate specific questions that have come up during the application process, and receive expert answers and recommendations upon their return.
Languages
We organize for our seminars a full-fledged bilingual space, when participants who prefer both English and Ukrainian languages can feel equally comfortable. All materials, slides, articles are given in both languages. The teacher uses bilingual slides during the presentation of the material. Audio broadcasting is done in separate audio channels: in English and in Ukrainian.
