INFORMATION | REGISTRATION

Description

Narcissistic pathology presents a challenge for therapists due to the difficulty in recognizing it among other disorders and treating it effectively. In this seminar, we will explore the concept of narcissism in depth, beginning with a distinction between healthy and pathological narcissism. We will discuss the different aspects of narcissism—grandiose and vulnerable—as well as the varying degrees of severity in pathological narcissism, including malignant narcissism and its associated dissocial traits. Since narcissistic pathology is not always easy to identify, clinical examples will be provided to illustrate how it differs from other disorders. The underlying theories supporting these conceptualizations will be explained, along with the relationship between attachment and narcissistic personality disorder. From a therapeutic perspective, we will outline the necessary parameters of the therapeutic framework to facilitate the treatment process. Additionally, we will describe narcissistic transferences, typical countertransferences, and their evolution throughout therapy.
