Biographical Info
Dr. Eugenia Cherkasskaya is a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience providing psychotherapy and evaluation to adults, teenagers, couples, and families. Her expertise and training lie in the areas of personality disorders, trauma, and sexuality, as well as in couples therapy. Dr. Cherkasskaya earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the Graduate Center and City College of the City University of New York. She completed a clinical psychology internship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Counseling and Psychological Services at Columbia University. Dr. Cherkasskaya subsequently served as a staff psychologist at Columbia University where she provided evaluations, psychotherapy, couples therapy, and group therapy to students and was part of the trauma team as well as the sex and gender identity team.
Dr. Cherkasskaya is a certified Therapist and Teacher Supervisor of Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP). She trained at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in TFP and has been an instructor and supervisor in the training and consultation program at TFP-NY and is currently an instructor in the TFP program at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research.
Dr. Cherkasskaya co-founded and runs Uptown Downtown Psychotherapy (UDP), a group practice that provides consultation and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. At UDP, Dr. Cherkasskaya supervises postdoctoral fellows in clinical psychology and leads the TFP supervision and didactics group.
Dr. Cherkasskaya also completed coursework in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) at the Ackerman Institute for the Family as well as in Psychoanalytic Couples Therapy at the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. She has presented and written on the psychological processes involved in women’s experience of sexual desire.
