TFP Therapist Certificates

We are pleased to announce the implementation of the new ISTFP Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) Certificates. Each certificate now includes a unique QR code that enables immediate verification of its authenticity via the public ISTFP member profile.

These enhancements strengthen the transparency and credibility of the ISTFP certification process and provide institutions, trainees, and colleagues with a simple and reliable way to confirm status within the Society.

How to request your certificate
To request your certificate, please email at [email protected], copying your examiners, who will confirm the successful completion of your certification examination. (Please do not reply to the listserv emails when requesting personal documentation.)

If you already have a previous (non-QR) ISTFP certificate, please include it in your email (as an attachment) so we can match your record and facilitate the re-issuance process.

As a friendly reminder, only current ISTFP members can be listed on the ISTFP website and have a public member profile available for verification.

Therefore, while ISTFP membership will not be mandatory to practice TFP after certification, only ISTFP members will be able to obtain certificates that include a QR code to authenticate their status through a public profile. Certified TFP therapists may freely practice TFP, but their patients will not be able to verify the validity of their status, and their names will not appear in the official TFP therapist directory until they become members. This measure is intended to help guide patients toward certified TFP therapists and to enhance the value and credibility of certification.

Submission deadlines and release schedule
Certificate requests are collected during the last week of each month and processed in batches on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Examples of submission periods include:

  • January 26 – January 31
  • February 23 – February 28
  • March 24 – March 31
  • May 24 – May 31
  • June 23 – June 30

Once a batch is closed, certificates are issued within 10 business days.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the above email address.

Kind regards,
The ISTFP Training and Education Committee
