The 4th Training Module of TFP- The Narcissistic Challenge
French – Hybrid
Louis Diguer, PH.D.
Description
Narcissistic pathology represents a challenge for the therapist due to the difficulty in recognizing it among other disorders and treating it adequately. In this seminar, Prof. Louis Diguer will deepen the concept of narcissism, first distinguishing between healthy narcissism and pathological narcissism. He will illustrate the two aspects of narcissism (grandiose and vulnerable), talk about the degrees of severity of pathological narcissism, including malignant narcissism and associated dysocial aspects. It is not always easy to recognize a narcissistic pathology and clinical examples will be given to illustrate the difference with other disorders such as chronic depression, social phobia or bipolar disorder. The underlying theories of these conceptions will be evoked as well as the relationship between attachment and narcissistic personality disorder. On the therapeutic level, you will be able to know the parameters of the therapeutic framework necessary to promote the therapeutic process. Narcissistic transfers and typical countertransferences will be illustrated by clinical examples, as well as the typical evolution of the therapeutic relationship and potential complications.
