Description
This training offers an in-depth exploration of narcissistic pathology, addressing its theoretical foundations, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic implications. It begins with a clarification of the concept of narcissism, distinguishing healthy from pathological forms, and examining both grandiose and vulnerable presentations, as well as varying levels of severity, including malignant narcissism and its antisocial dimensions. Particular attention will be given to the challenges of diagnosis through clinical vignettes designed to differentiate pathological narcissism from other psychopathological organizations, while linking these observations to developmental theories, especially attachment-related disturbances.
From a therapeutic perspective, the training provides a structured approach to the treatment process, including the establishment of the therapeutic frame, the ongoing analysis of transference and countertransference, interpretive interventions, and integrative therapeutic work. The different phases of treatment—from the initial stages through the middle and advanced phases—will be examined, highlighting indicators of progress as well as common obstacles such as resistance, regression, and negative therapeutic reactions. Special attention will be devoted to central affects, including envy, greed, and jealousy, specific transference manifestations (particularly erotic transference), and the clinical management of treatment termination.
